Further Details About the Role: To provide medical cover within the four Community Hospital wards for adult rehabilitation (including stroke and neuro rehabilitation) within North Kent Community Hospital In-Patient Wards. The wards offer a short period of rehabilitation for people who may continue to have medical/ rehabilitation needs which, although not requiring acute hospital services, cannot be managed at home. Patients are primarily admitted from the local acute hospitals – Darent Valley Hospital and Medway Maritime Hospital or they may be admitted from home. The ward multidisciplinary teams include physiotherapy and occupational therapy with rehabilitation facilities including a physiotherapy gym and occupational therapy assessment area. Patients have access to dietetics, speech and language therapy and podiatry. Social Services have a ward coordinator who visits the ward regularly. Discharges are carefully planned with the multidisciplinary team in conjunction with social services or transfer to the community teams where appropriate. The post holder will work alongside 2 other Specialty Doctors providing care to patients in all 4 community hospital wards. The post is for 40 hours per week. The post does not include weekend or on call work. The 3 specialty doctors at the community hospitals are expected to provide cross-cover for each other’s annual leave and/or sickness absence in agreement with the service lead. Out of hours cover runs from 18:00 to 08:00

Person Specification: For this opportunity the successful application must possess full GMC registration without restrictions. A minimum of 4 years post-graduate training at least two of which will be in a speciality programme for care of the elderly or as a fixed term speciality trainee in care of the elderly. MRCP is desirable but not a must. Competency in clinical assessment and formulation of appropriate management plans. Satisfactory completion of course e.g. ALS, ATLS, ACLS, ALERT
